Harassed

Linda M. Crate

pale moonlight
held me
suspended in it´s silver embrace
i was carpeted underneath
the kiss of
indigo night and all the stars
caught in his belly,
and i felt
the comfort of silence and the solitude
of being alone;
then you cut in like a thunderclap
roaring into my ears—
fury filled my veins along with fear,
you were a strange man
i didn´t know what you wanted;
sure enough you desired
only my body
asked me questions only foolish girls answer—
i told you no,
and you left me alone
yet the annoyance remained
why can´t a girl walk down the sidewalk without
being harassed?
not looking for sex or an invitation out
just because i walk outside
or because i´m wearing make-up and look nice;
sometimes i just want to escape into
an adventure inside myself
that only nature can grant me so please do
feel free to leave me be
let me blow by
as a wayward autumn leaf
because i can burn as angrily as a star
for i am summer born
will burn you into entropy if you cannot keep
your tongue to yourself.
